Hyd cops name Goan clubs Curlies and HillTop owners Edwin Nunes and Steve D’souza as “drug suppliers” in FIR

HYDERABAD: The special anti-drug enforcement cell of the Hyderabad narco police known as the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and the Narcotics Investigation Supervision Wing (NISW) of the Hyderabad city police – that works directly under the supervision of the Hyderabad Police commissioner, have named the owners of two popular Goan night clubs (and restaurants) Curlies and HillTop, Edwin Nunes and Steve D’souza (John Stephen D’Souza aka Steve) as the main bulk drug suppliers from the coastal state. Along with D’souza and Nunes at least six other Goans have been named as “drug suppliers” – providing small-time peddlers both in Goa and Telangana with drugs in bulk. In all 25 names have cropped up, out of which 18 venues are now under surveillance. The crack narco teams named above have in CR No 374/2022 u/s 8C, 22(C) and section 27 of the NDPS Act registered at the Osmania University Police Station, Hyderabad City, Telangana State in the FIR have stated that both Nunes and D’sousa procured drugs in bulk and supplied the same to smaller peddlers for sale to consumers. While about 7 to 8 persons have been named in the FIR after direct evidence was obtained upon interrogation of two arrested peddlers from Goa, the two teams of the H-NEW and the NISW are discreetly investigating the role of a former owner/partner/manager of Club Westend at Saligao and four other restaurant/nightclub operators in the Calangute-Baga-Anjuna belt. A source with the Hyderabad narco police said that in all more than ten Goan nightclub/restaurant owners are under the scanner in drug-related cases, with one of them being from South Goa. ALSO READ: More than 18 Goan clubs, restaurants on the radar of Hyderabad Narco cops

While our sources in the Hyderabad police were not ready to reveal names as it could hamper the on-going investigation, at least one of the restaurant owners from Calangute under investigation by the Hyderabad narco units, is politically connected and runs several hospitality-related outlets, they informed. Sources said the Hyderabad police are likely to obtain search warrants from the appropriate courts to search these establishments and individuals in the coming days.
