Post-mortem report indicates multiple injuries on Sonali Phogat’s body: murder charges invoked

PANAJI: After a post-mortem report indicated that there were ”multiple blunt force injuries” on the body of Sonali Phogat, the Goa Police on Thursday pressed a charge of murder against two associates of the BJP leader.

Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was added to the case related to the death of the 42-year-old leader, a senior police official told media persons in Panaji. Earlier the police had registered a case of unnatural death.

Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, who had accompanied Phogat when she arrived in Goa on August 22, were named as accused in the case, the Goa police said and the duo have been detained at the Anjuna police station.

Her brother Rinku Dhaka and other family members who arrived in Goa Wednesday, had filed a complaint against the two men at Anjuna Police Station immediately upon arrival. ALSO READ: How did Sonali Phogat die? Actor was drugged at Curlies, then beaten to death with a blunt object?

On Thursday, an autopsy was conducted on Phogat’s body at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, after her family agreed to the same.

Later in the evening, Dy SP Jivba Dalvi said the Goa police have placed under arrest 2 men, Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, in connection with murder of BJP leader Sonali Phogat.
