PANAJI: According to reliable sources, the CBI team probing the death of Sonali Phogat has sent her iPhone for forensic analysis and data recovery, with instructions to recover all deleted data for the last several months.

The CBI had claimed that the Goa police investigating the case did not investigate the iPhone of the BJP leader and did not even bother to unlock it.

CBI sources had told ABP News that the phone might hold important clues behind the death of Phogat, who passed away in Anjuna on August 23 due to a drug overdose and the Central Agency was very keen on recovering all the data on the electronic device as it could hold clues to the last few days of her life.

After Phogat’s family demanded a CBI probe, the case was handed over and the agency took over the case from the Goa Police on September 15.

When the CBI took custody of Phogat’s iPhone and asked the Goa Police for the password of Phogat’s iPhone, the Goa police had no clue about the password, ABP News had reported.

The CBI was able to unlock the phone after receiving the password from Phogat’s family members.

The CBI wants to recover deleted messages, deleted WhatsApp chats and all other data including files and images that were on the iPhone for the last two years.

The agency has handed over the phone to data recovery experts and digital forensic experts to recover all the deleted data for the last year, since the late actor began using the phone.
