Siddhi Naik’s Family Could Be Hiding Some Vital Facts: Goa Police

PANAJI: Sources within the Goa Police, including officials involved in the investigation of the mysterious death of 19-year-old Siddhi Naik feel that the family members of the deceased teenager could be hiding some vital facts or unknowingly not revealing the same.

“The deceased was under family pressure for various reasons. One fact has come to light over the days, that seniors in her family scolded her for speaking on the phone late at night. Why was she not carrying her phone on the day of the incident. Did her family snatch away her phone and deny her its use,” an officer wondered?

“She was depressed. Maybe the family was mentally torturing her or harassing her for some particular reason, and nobody is ready to speak up,” an official suggested, adding, “we are not blaming the family or casting aspirations on the girl’s character, but unless we know what was really going on in the family and the kind of pressures the girl was facing, we cannot proceed further.” ALSO READ: Siddhi Naik Was Killed By Sudden Forcible Drowning: Girl’s Father Tells Cops

They also question why the family was in a hurry to cremate the body of their daughter if they suspected foul play?

Some senior officials who spoke to this reporter, said they are doing their best to solve the mystery behind the tragic death of the girl, but opined that their hands are tied.

“We have no leads to go on right now,” said an official, adding that there are doubts in their minds that the family could be hiding something.

On the other hand, the family has squarely blamed the men in Khaki for the botched up investigation.

Family members allege the cops did not collect CCTV footage and waited for nearly a week to spring into action.

Prominent citizens and social workers in Goa alleged that the case was deliberately “closed” from the start and held both the doctors at GMC (Goa Medical College and Hospital) and the Calangute Police responsible.

“The viscera of the deceased was not preserved, the clothes of the victim have not been found and now the blame game has begun between doctors who conducted the post-mortem and the police,” a social worker Aishwarya Salgaonkar opined, while demanding that the doctors who conducted the post-mortem should be immediately suspended.

Aruna Wagh, wife of the late MLA Vishnu Wagh, said that there is total collapse of law and order in the State, and women are not safe in Goa anymore. Commenting on the investigation, she said the cops did not follow protocol and just wrote off the case as “another suicide”.

According to a report in The Goan, Wagh came down heavily on attempts made to malign the victim.

“The name of the victim girl is being maligned. Is it because she comes from a poor family or is it because she belongs to the Bahujan Samaj or is it because she is a woman?” Wagh asked and said that in any crime, a criminal leaves behind clues which the police need to find. Wagh demanded an investigation to be done at the workplace where the girl worked.

“Why is no investigation done at the workplace? Whom are the authorities trying to save?” she questioned and demanded that the family of Siddhi Naik should be given justice by bringing the culprit to book.
