Siddhi Naik case: Girl’s father files murder complaint at Calangute PS
PANAJI: About three weeks after the dead body of Siddhi Naik was found on the Calangute beach, her father lodged a complaint alleging unknown persons murdered his daughter.
This was probably prompted by findings in the post-mortem report, which mention minor bruises on her legs, presence of sand in the throat of the deceased and other factors. ALSO READ: Was Siddhi Naik romantically involved with a Calangute politician’s driver’s son?
In the written complaint handed over to Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo, Sandeep Naik claimed his 19-year old daughter Siddhi Naik, working at Porvorim, went missing from the morning of 11th August, and stated that a missing complaint in this regard was lodged at Mapusa police station.

“The last time I saw her alive was on 11/8/2021 morning when I dropped her at the Green Park bus stand near Mapusa, from where she was supposed to go for her work at Porvorim. However, her dead body was found on the next day early in the morning (on 12.8.2021 at 6.40 am), at Calangute beach, which was noticed by a lifeguard,” he stated in his complaint.
Naik said he had not seen the body on the beach but identified the same as that of his daughter after being shifted to the GMC Morgue by the police.

Naik stated in his complaint: “the moment I realized my daughter is dead, I went in to shock and hence could not raise any doubts of foul play concerning my daughter’s death, even though I noticed that there were no clothes on the dead body except the panty”. The body was found in a semi nude condition and all her clothes are missing.
The postmortem was conducted by a GMC doctor the same day, he stated.
After taking my signature on the PM report and police formalities were over, the dead body was handed over to me along with one “No Objection Certificate” to conduct the final rites on the dead body. Hence, we performed the last rites in our village crematorium, Naik said.

He said after postmortem, a lady police constable told him that his daughter died due to drowning.
The constable told Naik she would give him a copy of the postmortem report later at the police station once the investigation is over.
“Only after a week, I came across two photos on social media of the dead body of my daughter in which the dead body was seen lying on the beach without clothes. If I had seen these photos on the day of the postmortem or actually seen the dead body on the scene, I would have surely lodged a complaint of foul play and murder. Since I had not seen these photos earlier, I did not raise suspicion of foul play at the time of postmortem,” the deceased’s father said in his complaint.

“On 1/9/2021 morning, I got a copy of the postmortem report from a police officer. I realized that whatever I saw in viral photos, the same was noted in the post mortem report. i.e. there were no clothes on her body other than her panty, and her lips were bluish at the time of death,” he said.
He said that as informed by a constable, the report mentioned the death was due to drowning.
“At the same time, after going through the PM report, I came to know few more things related to the death of my daughter.
They are as under:-
(1) In the viral photo, the dead body is seen in a “face down” (lying on tummy) position, whereas, in the postmortem report, it is mentioned on page no. 2 that “PM Lividity was on the present back aspect of the body”. This means the dead body has remained in a “face-up” or “supine” (lying on back) position for quite some time, and later on, it was changed to “face down” or “prone” position, which was in viral photos. This also means that the body was not floating in the water; if so, “PM Lividity would have come on the front aspect of a dead body and not on the back aspect of the body”. This is because the dead body floats in the face and head down position.
Finally, it means that the dead body remained in the face-up position for the first few hours of death, and later on, it was changed to a new position seen in the viral photo. It means that the position of the dead body has been changed by an unknown person/s for at least more than one time, after the initial supine position of the dead body after death. (2) In the postmortem report, it is also mentioned that the deceased’s “stomach was empty” which means there was no water in the stomach. Further, it mentions, “sand particles present beyond vocal cord”. This means my daughter Siddhi did not drown in deep sea water. Otherwise, she would have swallowed water and the same would have been present in her stomach, because she did not know swimming. On the other hand, sand was present in the vocal cords, which means she has drowned in seawater on the beach.
(3) Finally and most importantly, in the same postmortem report, three injuries are mentioned on the body in the form of bruises. It is mentioned that these bruises are superficial but are of thumb impression size (i.e. two bruises on the left leg were of 2×1 cms size and the one on the right forearm was of 2 x 1.5 cms size). (Postmortem doctor has specifically mentioned in the report that he has determined the depth of bruises by giving incisions all over these bruises so that he had made sure that these bruises were not deep.),” the complaint says. Further, the complaint states that since the bruises were not deep, they are not caused by hard objects, wherein they are possible if someone forcibly holds other people tight by their hands.
“Also, they are not scratches, otherwise it would have said that they were caused to person accidentally by hitting the rocks while drowning in water,” he said.
“I admit that, I did not suspect any foul play in the death of my daughter, till the time I saw viral photos and then read the postmortem report. Now, I have realized foul play in my daughter’s death, Miss Siddhi Naik. Therefore, I lodge a complaint at your police station that an unknown person/s has/have murdered my daughter, Miss Siddhi Naik, by forcibly downing her in shallow beach seawater, holding her in such a position to cover mouth and nostril till she dies of drowning in water,” he said in his complaint.
