CALANGUTE, GOA: No matter which part of the world you hail from, a gourmet’s absolute delight is the exotic,  fluffy and mouth-watering Crab Kulcha, topped with crab recheado meat (recheado masala is a red, spicy Goan preparation), recently introduced at the iconic Goan restaurant Souza Lobo, located right on the Calangute beach in North Goa.

It doesn’t just end with the crab kulcha, this is just the beginning for the 90-year-young restaurant, which is not just a fine-dining place but rather a heritage landmark with an old-world charm on the Queen of Goan beaches – Calangute. A culinary institution that both Goans and foreign tourists swear by – from an ordinary traveller to gourmets, everyone loves the food and cherishes the ambiance at Souza Lobo.

According to Jude Souza Lobo, the brain behind the delicious crab kulcha, “We do authentic Goan as well as fusion Goan with Indian and continental as well. It depends on the diner. Someone may want a continental preparation for the toppings and we do it for them,” explains Jude adding that food is a passion for him.

In addition to these options, we do chicken xacutti tacos and a variety of Indian fusion  dishes combined with traditional Goan offerings, explains Jude.

For those wanting to experiment with Indian fusion cuisine, coupled with traditional, Goan fare, get ready to welcome Chicken Cafreal Kulchas, Prawn Recheado Parathas, Sorpotel Naans, Chicken Xacutti Phulkas, Sausage Paratha rolls  (a fusion of the Chouriço Pão or Choris Pao as its known in Konkani, with the North-Indian paratha) and the various other combinations, Souza Lobo is gearing up to offer its guests this monsoon.

For those who love to experiment and would want to try out more esoteric options, check out the Chicken Cafreal Kulchas (Read Here) and the Prawn Recheado Parathas (Read Here) only at Souza Lobo, Calangute.

What we recommend: The Souza Lobo restaurant at Calangute is known across Goa (and India) for their fabulous flagship Recheado Pomfret, Recheado Prawns, Recheado King Prawns, Recheado Bangdo, Recheado Squids and the recently introduced experimental or fusion food – Recheado Prawn Parathas, Cafreal Kulchas, Sorpotel Naans and Crab Kulchas.

They also make the best (and authentic Goan) Chicken Xacuti (Read Here) as well as Crab Xacuti  (Read Here) in all of Goa.
