Police, CBI have no evidence that Jiah Khan committed suicide: Mother tells court Khan’s death was murder
MUMBAI, (PTI): Rabia Khan, mother of late Bollywood actor Jiah Khan on Thursday told a special court here that neither the police nor the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had collected any ”legal evidence” to prove that her daughter had committed suicide.
She also told the court that she believed it to be a case of murder and not suicide. Jiah Khan was found hanging at her residence in June 2013. Actor Suraj Pancholi, who was in a relationship with the with the 25-year-old actress, had been booked for abetment of suicide in the case that was probed by the police as well as the CBI. He is currently out on bail.
On Thursday, Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan continued recording her testimony in the case before special judge A S Sayyad.
Narrating the incident related to Jiah Khan’s death, her mother told the court that as she opened the door of Jiah’s bedroom on June 3, 2013, she found her hanging there with a dupatta.
Rabia Khan said she then called actor Anju Mahendroo to inform her that Jiah was found hanging. Mahendroo arrived at the spot with Moin Baig in 10 minutes. Upon their arrival, the knot around her Jiah’s neck was untied and she was laid on the bed.
Mahendroo and Baig are witnesses in the case. ”I tried to put pressure on her (Jiah’s) chest…and I tried to get Jiah back to breathing. Meanwhile, Baig ran to a doctor. As soon as the doctor checked her, he declared her dead,” Rabia Khan said.
After some time, the police arrived at the spot. There was an officer who inspected the crime scene, where Jiah was lying. He immediately said it seems to be a foul play, she added. Later, actor Aditya Pancholi, father of Suraj Pancholi, walked into the house, she said.
”As soon as he (Aditya Pancholi) entered my house, he fell at my feet and said his son has ruined his own life and career. I told Aditya that I had asked Jiah many times to stay away from Suraj,” Rabia Khan said.
She further testified that at this point, Mahendroo asked her not to mention Suraj’s name as his father was ”connected to the underworld, has political clout and is very dangerous”. Rabia Khan told the court that the police took away all the belongings of Jiah, including her phone.
”We saw on the screen of the phone that there were many text messages and missed calls – all from Suraj. We read the messages on the screen and they was filled with anger and some abusive language,” she added.
Rabia Khan said the police had called her another daughter to come to the police station to unlock Jiah’s phone. ”When she went to the police station, Jiah’s phone was already unlocked, and many pictures and messages had been deleted. It looked as if somebody had tampered with the phone…That’s when I lost trust with the Juhu police (which initially probed the case),” she said.
Rabia Khan said Jiah’s body was initially taken to Cooper hospital for post-mortem and later shifted to the J J Hospital. ”Within two hours of passing away of my daughter, they had already declared it as a suicide. I suspect that the movement of her body from Cooper Hospital to J J Hospital was done with mala fide intention,” she alleged. Rabia Khan reiterated that when a policewoman came to their house to record her statement, she told her that it was not a case of suicide but murder, as there were injury marks on the body.
She also told the court that a few days after her daughter’s death, they found a note written by her in her bedroom. After reading the letter, the family came to know about the ”pain and grievances borne by Jiah, which pointed towards Suraj Pancholi”. After her testimony got over, special public prosecutor (CBI) Manoj Chandlan asked Rabia Khan whether she wanted to add anything further. She then said, ”Both the agencies (police and CBI) never collected any legal evidence to prove it was a case of suicide. I believe it is a murder and the accused is responsible for killing my daughter.” The defence will cross examine Rabia Khan on Monday.
Jia Khan was best known for her performance in film ‘Nishabd’ starring Amitabh Bachchan. Suraj Pancholi, the son of Bollywood couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, is currently out on bail.
The CBI had alleged that a three-page note seized by the Mumbai police on June 10, 2013, was written by Jiah Khan, which narrated her ”intimate relationship, physical abuse and mental and physical torture” allegedly at the hands of Pancholi which led her to commit suicide. (PTI)

Burqa Shocker: Ishika Borah claims she was offered Rs 50 lakh for the film “Sex Inside A Burkha”
KABUL: Even while Iranian director Ali Zafar Abbasi’s controversial silent film “Sex Inside A Burkha” based on true incidents of prostitution among married Muslim women in certain Muslim societies across the world has stirred protests, Indian soft-porn star Ishika Borah today claimed that she was offered Rs 50 lakh to play the main lead role in the film.
Ishika said she refused to do the film as it was “too controversial and blasphemous to some extent” and she wanted to avoid religious controversy. The short film of 45 minutes duration was partly short in Rajasthan and Old Delhi and features two Indian actors. The rest of the film’s cast includes actors of different nationalities including Iranian and Pakistani actors. However, Abbasi said he plans to re-shoot some portions of the film as he was not happy with the final outcome.
“The film is based on true incidents wherein young and good-looking married women from poor families are “hired” out by their husbands to satisfy the carnal needs of rich men from the Gulf countries for varying periods of time ranging from three to 24 months. The women are paid decent sums of money, but sometimes are physically or brutally abused by the men hiring them who want to get their money’s worth. This illegal practice is prevalent in several Muslim nations in very poor communities and is spoken of in hushed tones, although the entire family knows what is actually happening. It’s considered a ‘job’ or ‘service’ rendered by the woman to take care of the financial needs of her family and in some cultures is sort of revered,” explained Abbasi. He added that the film is not judgemental in anyway but only portrays existing customs in some sections of the community.
The practice has no legitimacy in Islam and yet is defended by some Conservative religious leaders in some places as a “noble service”. Abbasi says he wants to expose this practice through his short silent film and give it international coverage. Ishika Borah was chosen for the project for her bold image and attitude, which has won her the title of an Indian soft-porn star.

Who is bolder and hotter on OTT? Jayashree Gaikwad, Aayushi Jaiswal, Ishika Borah, Priya Soni, Nandita Dutta or?
MUMBAI: With the explosion in the OTT space, hundreds of female actors have begun ruling the waves and also making some decent money in the bargain. While names like Ishika Borah have been floating around for over a decade now, others like Jayashree Gaikwad and Aayushi Jaiswal are comparatively new.
Ishika Borah as readers may recall, first shot to fame with her nude and topless magazine covers and centrespreads for men’s magazines like Debonair and Chastity during 2007-12. Those were the days when mobile phones were keypad driven with small B&W screens and almost no graphics capability at all. The mobile Internet was at the 2G level and only text-based mobile pages (or WAP pages) could be rendered on mobile phones. Magazines, glossies and periodicals ruled even the glamour world and men hid girlie magazines in their closets and office bags. Ishika Borah was one of the more sought-after pin-up girls during that time and was doing photo shoots almost everyday for various men’s magazines in the country.
But the advent of smartphones like the iPhone and other android devices changed things forever. Print magazines were gone and replaced by apps. And this time around names like Aayushi Jaiswal, Jayashree Gaikwad, Nandita Dutta and Priya Soni are ruling the men’s private entertainment plane.
But that’s not all. More and more bolder actors keep coming up as the industry grows. The entire OTT or digital entertainment industry in India is about Rs 5000 crore annually and the bold or adult space takes up more than 50 percent of this business pie which works out to Rs 2500 crore.
With this kind of budget and money, hundreds, if not thousands of women compete with each other for viewers and eyeballs. While names like Aayushi Jaiswal, Jayashree Gaikwad, Nandita Dutta, Zoya Rathore and several others, not to forget the still ruling Ishika Borah are known and seen around on social media, let’s not forget it’s the hundreds of unknown female actors who make up nearly 90 percent of the Rs 2500 crore market in India and are as popular as the above names in their individual regional fiefdoms or kingdoms.
