Souza Lobo case: Calangute cops paid Rs 2.5 lakh bribe per month, Delhi bizman Rajeev Arora under the lens?

PANAJI: In a shocking disclosure, a senior police official who was earlier posted at the Calangute police station, alleged that the main culprits in the Souza Lobo restaurant vandalism case, Rajeev Arora, Gajendra alias Chotu Singh and Sunil Bhomkar were paying the cops at the Calangute police station a whopping Rs 2.5 lakh per month to look the other way. The name of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) has also cropped up in the matter.

While the Calangute police station got Rs 2.5 lakh per month, other senior officials and politicians were paid additionally by the trio which included Chotu Singh and Bhomkar and one more.

A restaurant owner familiar with the ground reality in the area, alleged that Gajendra Singh alias Chotu who runs several nightclubs and dance bars from Vagator to Candolim along the coastal belt and Sunil Bhomkar together, used to pay the cops (from two police stations) and politicians nearly Rs 10 to 12 lakh per month as protection money to ensure that their businesses were not raided.

Police constable Vinay Shrivastav who is always seen without uniform in the Calangute area, along with six other constables currently posted at the Calangute police station are alleged to be hand-in-glove with the troublemakers and provided them protection. After the suspension of Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo, the Goa police swung into action and arrested nine people including Gajendra ‘Chotu’ Singh (42) who owns several nightclubs and ladies or dance bars, Rahul Rathod (20) and Sunil Rathod, all natives of Uttar Pradesh.

The main accused in the recent assault case, Sunil Bhomkar is absconding has applied for anticipatory bail.
