Russian Woman Tourist Raped At Calangute: Goa Police Arrest Two Nepali Hotel Staff

PANAJI: A female Russian tourist about 37 years of age, was raped at Calangute according to the latest reports.

Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira confirmed the occurrence of the crime and said it was reported on Friday afternoon to the police.

The Calangute police have registered an FIR and investigation is going on. The crime occurred on Thursday night between 10 to 11 pm when the tourist was resting in her hotel room and dozed off under the influence of alcohol.

Two Nepali boys working with the hotel as cleaners entered the room on the pretext of cleaning the room and on finding the woman alone in the room and in an inebriated condition asleep on the bed, raped her. The woman woke up with a start and screamed for help.

Two persons hailing from Nepal were arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a Russian woman on the first day of her visit to Goa, the cops said on Friday.

The 37-year-woman was raped in a hotel in Calangute in North Goa on Thursday, news agency PTI reported.

“The two accused, both 23, were working as room boys in the hotel where the woman was staying with her companions and friends. The accused were held on Friday.

The woman had arrived from Russia on Thursday itself,” Calangute police station inspector Dattaguru Sawant was quoted by PTI.

The Nepali workers have been arrested by the cops. However, Calangute police officials refused to divulge any further information about the arrests or if anyone else was involved in the crime.

Both the arrested accused aged between 22 to 25 years hail from Nepal’s Bardhiya area. Superintendent of Police (SP) North Goa Nidhin Valsan told news agency ANI on phone that the accused were identified as Sakhil Ansari (23) and Sayumdhin Ansari (23).
