Goa: Big Daddy Casino Owner Gopal Kanda’s Name Crops Up In Sonali Phogat case

PANAJI: Politician and controversial businessman Gopal Kanda’s name has cropped up in the Sonali Phogat case. Kanda is said to own the Big Daddy casino in Goa and has been in and out of several controversies in the past.

Now, according to a report in ETvbharat.com, Gopal Kanda is allegedly involved in the present matter and both Sonali Phogat’s manager Sudhir Sangwan and his friend Sukhwinder know Kanda very well for several years. Her family has alleged that Sukhwinder had earlier worked for Kanda and the duo know him very well. Family members have alleged, as per the ETvbharat.com report, that Kanda is helping them and that’s the reason the Goa police are not arresting them – the two witnesses who were in the presence and company of the deceased actor in the last hours when she was alive. Phogat’s brother has demanded the arrest of Sangwan and Sukhwinder, accusing them of allegedly raping and murdering his sister after drugging her. ALSO READ: Accused PA forced Phogat to perform oral sex on him in the toilet?

In the latest development, Phogat’s family has directly accused Kanda of meddling in the investigation and influencing the Goa police so that the matter is closed as a case of “heart attack”. They have refused to take the body unless the case is handed over to the CBI or the autopsy is conducted at the AIIMS in Delhi.

According to media reports in India Today and NDTV, Sonali Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka in a written complaint to the Anjuna police in North Goa has alleged that sister Sonali was drugged, raped and then murdered by some persons known to her. Her brother has filed a formal complaint with the Goa Police in writing, at the Anjuna Police station, alleging she was murdered in a conspiracy hatched by two of her associates, one of them who happens to be her manager Sudhir Sangwan, and also alleged that she was being raped and blackmailed over the years for money. While Dhaka did not speak to this reporter, family sources said a financial dispute could be the main reason or cause for the murder.

According to Dhaka’s complaint, the duo were demanding a huge sum of money from Sonali and since she refused to pay, they were trying different ways and means to get the money from her. Family sources have also dragged Gopal Kanda’s name in the matter, alleging that Kanda could possibly be the brain behind her death and the entire matter could take a personal turn. Dhaka said that the duo – Sangwan and Sukhwinder had drugged Sonali on several occasions in the past and made porn videos of her in compromising positions and used those videos to blackmail her. They wanted to grab her money and property, Dhaka alleged.

He also alleged the two forced or conned or trapped her into some sex scandal of sorts and used it to extort money from her. She could have been trapped in a porn or sex racket and videos made of her to blackmail her later on, a family member alleged, adding that on 2-3 occasions, they claimed – in an attempt to threaten her that they had her nude photos and videos. Another source claimed that Sonali owned her manager some money, out of a business transaction and was not paying up on one pretext or the other.

Dhaka has accused Sangwan of rape and murder charges in his letter. He has alleged that Sangwan along with his friend Sukhwinder were blackmailing Sonali over an objectionable video and demanding huge sums of money. The video was made after lacing her food with some psychotropic substance and then raping her. Dhaka has also alleged some political conspiracy by her opponents behind her rape and murder. While he did not mention Kanda’s name directly in his written complaint, the deceased’s family has directly alleged the involvement of Kanda in the “murder” of Sonali Phogat.

Another news article in Dainik Bhaskar quotes Phogat’s brother as accusing Kanda of being the reason why the Goa police are not acting in the case.
