Cost of Anant Ambani’s pre-wedding, wedding parties? Is Mukesh Ambani spending Rs 1000-1500 crore on son’s nuptials?
MUMBAI/JAMNAGAR: If industry gossip and other sources and estimates are to be believed, the bill for Anant Ambani’s wedding will be over Rs 1000 crore, making it one of the world’s most expensive weddings.
In fact, one industry expert (on celebrity weddings) claimed that the overall expenses both in India and abroad for Anant Ambani’s wedding (in July this year) and other pre-wedding functions, including the Jamnagar bash and other social activities by the family including gifts and mementos could touch a high of Rs 1500 crore.
The pre-wedding bash at Jamnagar from 1st March to 3rd March (beginning tomorrow) at which pop queen Rihanna is expected to perform – she has already landed in Jamnagar at the time of filing this report, will itself cost Rs 300 to Rs 400 crore.
News agency ANI reported that pop queen Rihanna arrived in Jamnagar on Thursday, to attend the pre-wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s youngest son, Anant will tie the knot with industrialist Viren Merchant’s daughter, Radhika Merchant, later this year.
Singer Rihanna could be seen making her exit from the airport donning a black high-neck top paired with purple cargo pants. She tied a stripped cloth on her waist, claimed ANI.
Earlier in the day, American singer and songwriter J Brown arrived in Jamnagar for the three-day pre-wedding celebrations. Not only, J Brown, but multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and bassist Adam Blackstone also reached Jamnagar.
On Wednesday, the Ambani family organised ‘anna seva’ to seek the blessings of the local community for the pre-wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. After the meal, the attendees enjoyed traditional folk music. Famous Gujarati singer Kirtidan Gadhvi stole the show with his singing. At Jogwad village near Reliance Township in Jamnagar, Mukesh Ambani, Anant Ambani and other members of the Ambani family, including Radhika Merchant, served traditional Gujarati food to the villagers. Radhika’s maternal grandmother and parents–Viren and Shaila Merchant– also took part in the ‘anna seva’. Food will be served to about 51,000 residents over the next few days, the ANI report claimed.
Sharing food is an old tradition in the Ambani family, which is done on auspicious family occasions. Sticking to tradition, Anant started his pre-wedding functions with ‘anna seva’. The pre-wedding functions are expected to be traditional and grand till 3rd March.
The guests will get to experience the beauty of Indian culture at the pre-wedding festivities. They will receive traditional scarves made by women artisans from Kachchh and Lalpur in Gujarat. The guest list also includes former Prime Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt, former Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper, President of Google Donald Harrison, former President of Bolivia, Jorge Quiroga, former Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd and Chairperson of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab.
CEO and MD ADNOC Dr Sultan Al Jaber, CEO bp Murray Auchincloss, Chairman and Founder Colony Capital Thomas Barrack, CEO JC2 Ventures John Chambers, Former CEO bp Bob Dudley, President of Global Development at BMGF Christopher Elias, Executive Chairman at Exor John Elkann, and CEO of Endeavor Ari Emanuel are also expected to arrive in Jamnagar for the event, ANI said.
According to a GQ report, the three-day gala function from 1st to 3rd March at the lavish Ambani Estates in Gujarat’s Jamnagar, is actually a pre-wedding bash of Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s youngest son Anant, with the official wedding (reception, etc.,) taking place in July. The youngest Ambani is marrying Radhika Merchant, daughter of pharma baron Vivian Merchant.
GQ claims the guest list features billionaire tech founders Bill Gates (Microsoft) and Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Disney CEO Bob Iger, Ivanka Trump, Qatar Premier’s Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the King and Queen of Bhutan and hundreds more.
More than 100 Indian and international singers and performers – the who’s who of the international stage will perform during the three-day function in Jamnagar. While Rihanna is expected to charge Rs 35-40 crore, according to industry estimates, Rihanna charges anywhere between $1.5 million (Rs 12 crore) to $8 million (Rs 66 crore) for a private event like the Ambani pre-wedding bash claims GQ. This does not include air transportation for her entourage, hotel and food, security and ground transportation.
According to GQ, Queen Bey flew down to Udaipur in 2018, to set the stage on fire at Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal’s sangeet ceremony. For her super-high-voltage performance, the star donned two signature outfits by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Falguni and Shane Peacock. According to a report in Forbes and the Hindustan Times, Beyoncé reportedly charged around $4 million (Rs 33 Crore) for the same function.
