Top Indian female Instagram Influencer detained in Dubai

DUBAI: A top Indian female Instagram influencer was detained by the authorities in Dubai on Thursday, sources said.

While further details are awaited, unconfirmed sources stated that the woman who is also an aspiring Bollywood actor and ramp model, besides being very popular on Instagram with millions of followers, was carrying some substance on her person that was banned.

Without exactly naming the banned substance that led to her detention and further search of her personal effects, luggage and hotel room, our source said the woman could be carrying drugs like marijuana or cocaine, which led to her detention by local authorities.

No official statement was issued by the Dubai police on the matter and one official only said they are verifying the nature of the items she was carrying when she was accosted by a special squad.

“We had received prior information and intelligence from a verified source that the Indian woman was dealing in narcotics and other banned substances and we detained her accordingly. Some suspicious substance was found and tests were carried out using a narcotics field kit. But since the test results were inconclusive we have sent the substance for lab and confirmatory tests. Based on the results further action will be taken,” the official said, adding that the woman is not arrested but only kept under temporary surveillance in her hotel room till the exact nature of the items can be ascertained.

The identify of the woman was also not officially revealed as she was not arrested till the time of going to press.
