MUMBAI: A man who identified himself only as Anwar Ali, claiming to be an assistant and bodyguard to the supreme leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan, Hibatullah Akhundzada threatened to shoot and kill Turkish-Iranian origin model and actor Rayya Labib (presently based in Mumbai) for what he termed was slander, defamation and abuse of the Talibani Afghanistan supreme leadership in Kabul.

The call which was received via IP or data calling via the Facebook Messenger service came from a ‘private number’ and even the IP address was masked and attempts to retrieve connection data were futile.

“I was checking through my messages on Facebook messenger, when suddenly I get an incoming call from an unidentified id and source. I picked it up out of curiosity, thinking it was an automated or computerized message from the social media platform. This is when a man in a very gruff and abusive tone identified himself as Anwar Ali and claimed to be an assistant and bodyguard to the supreme leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan, Hibatullah Akhundzada. He threatened to shoot and kill me for speaking against the supreme leadership in Afghanistan, which I have been doing for the last two days via my Twitter posts. The call lasted for less than 10 to 14 seconds,” Rayya told this reporter.

Rayya had made several social media posts condemning the Taliban and Afghan leadership for its repressive laws against women, including a recent one that forbade female patients from seeking medical treatment from male doctors.

She later on deleted several posts due to the vitriolic comments and threats from various viewers.

Another Afghani model based in Mumbai, Malisha Heena Khan also confirmed the threats received by Rayya Labib and wrote on social media that the Taliban cannot live with criticism of their own draconian policies.
