Mumbai’s Wasi Sayed selected for inter-state football tournament
MUMBAI: Malad, Mumbai-based midfielder Wasi Sayed has been selected for an inter-state football tournament All India 11-side Mariners Cup, organised by Mumbai Suburban FC – an upcoming bunch of professional and semi-professional footballers.
19-year-old Wasi Sayed started playing football at the age of 10, influenced by his brother Mohsin Sayed who was his first coach and helped him a lot with basics.
He further played for his St Annes’ High School and won the MSSA Tournament among others. “It would not have been possible to win the tournaments without the guidance and support of my school coach – Alex Yesudas de Lopez,” says Wasi.
Football became a very important part of his life as he began participating in many competitive tournaments, representing Thakur College and even won the DSO U19 tournament, along with his team.
Speaking to this reporter, Sayed said: I believe playing football is one of the most important part of my life and career and I wish to perform on a greater stage. I have seen a lot of talented players going down because of lack of support from their families, but I am blessed to have great parents who always support me and push me forward not just to play football but to perform well and win the game.
“We live in a nation where cricket and cricketers are worshiped by the populace and even though football is liked in many parts of India, it is not given the love it deserves,” opines Wasi.
