Fate of Maha Govt Uncertain: Eknath Shinde Most Likely To Team Up With BJP
MUMBAI: The fate of the Maharashtra MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) government is uncertain and hangs in balance as rebel MLA Eknath Shinde and nearly 35 other Shiv Sena MLAs, including about 7 Independent MLAs left for Assam from Surat in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
According to an Indian Express report, only 18 of Uddhav Thackeray’s 55 MLAs were present at a meeting called at Varsha, the CM’s official residence, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Sena removed Shinde as the party’s leader in the state Assembly, replacing him with Shivadi MLA Ajay Choudhari.
And as the Shiv Sena-led government fights for survival, Shinde is most likely to join the BJP or support them to form a new government in the State.
According to a Shiv Sena MLA, it is only a matter of days before this government falls as the numbers have shifted sides, unless NCP supremo Sharad Pawar manages to bring back Shinde and his group from Assam, which is going to be easier said than done, given the fact that the BJP rules the North-Eastern state.
Shinde with his breakaway MLAs are expected to float a new political party, on the lines of the Shiv Sena and offer support to the BJP to form the government in Maharashtra.
