Mumbai News: Boxing coach held for raping 14-year-old student

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police arrested a thirty-year-old boxing coach for allegedly raping a fourteen-year-old minor student at a boxing club in Mulund.

The incident happened on Sunday when the accused Umesh Rajak, a resident of Chembur, had called the victim to his residence.

Rajak had reportedly called the victim for counseling as she had recently joined the boxing coaching under him.

Rajak then allegedly took the victim to the Mulund-based sports club and raped her.

The victim revealed her ordeal to her parents following which a police complaint was filed against Rajak.

She also told her parents that Rajak had threatened to destroy her boxing career if she told anyone about the incident.

The accused has been arrested under various sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POCSOA) and rape.

He has been remanded to police custody where officials are interrogating him if he had been involved in any other such assault on any of his students.
