Heavy To Moderate Isolated Rain, Thunderstorms In Goa Over Next Three Days
Panaji: A few places across the Goa experienced light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the sudden rain activity to a trough that has developed in the Arabian Sea.
“A trough in low-level easterlies at 0.9 km above mean sea-level runs from east central Arabian Sea, off the Karnataka coast, to South Maharashtra, across the Konkan region and Goa. Under its influence, light to moderate rain and formation of thunderstorms are expected over Goa. This weather pattern will prevail over the region for a couple of days,” IMD scientist Shambu Ravindren said.
IMD’s observation revealed that the minimum temperatures are “appreciably above normal” over North Goa and above normal over South Goa.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa observatory has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in the State till Friday, January 8.

This pattern will continue over the next four days, starting from January 5, IMD officials said.
On Monday night and Tuesday morning, the State received heavy rainfall at several places as a result of the development of a new system.
IMD Goa acting in-charge Shambu Ravindren said the State will receive showers as a result of the trough that developed along the east central Arabian Sea.
He said the trough is passing from Karnataka over the Goa coast and will reach Maharashtra.
Goa has been put on yellow alert till Friday, as an offshore trough that developed along the east central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast is headed towards the Maharashtra coast.
