Asha Parekh to be awarded Dada Saheb Phalke Award: Union Minister Anurag Thakur

NEW DELHI: News agency ANI tweeted that veteran actor and film director Asha Parekh will be honoured with India’s highest film and entertainment-related honour by the Government of India, the Dada Saheb Phalke award.

This announcement was made by Union Minister for Information and broadcasting Anurag Thakur today.

Asha Parekh is a retired Indian actress, film director, and producer who appeared in many commercially successful films throughout her career.

She was the highest paid actress of her time and was one of the most successful actresses of the 1960s and 1970s.

According to her Wikipedia page, She is considered one of the most influential actresses of all time in Hindi cinema.

In 1992, she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contribution to the field of cinema.

According to a PTI report, the 79-year-old actor, best known for films such as ”Dil Deke Dekho”, ”Kati Patang”, ”Teesri Manzil”, and ”Caravan”, is considered one of the most influential and popular actresses of all time in Hindi cinema.

Also a director and producer, Parekh helmed the acclaimed TV drama ”Kora Kagaz” in the late 1990s.

Last year, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 was conferred on Rajinikanth.
