Aftab Amin Poonawala and Shraddha Walkar also argued about religious issues, festivals and rituals: Shreha Dhargalkar
MUMBAI: In a startling revelation and in what could be a possible case for a Love Jihaad investigation, an activist Shreha Dhargalkar who met and chatted up with the deceased murder victim Shraddha Walkar months before her death, during a beach cleanup drive in Mumbai, claimed that Aftab Amin Poonawala and Shraddha Walkar argued about religious issues and rituals and religious celebrations for festivals.

According to Dhargalkar, while Shraddha has described herself as a ‘liberal Hindu’ in certain social media posts, she did like to visit the Ganpati Bappa mandap during the Ganpati festival like most Maharashtrians would. But Aftab was against her going for Ganpati Bappa darshan and did not encourage her to celebrate Hindu festivals, Dhargalkar alleged.

“We spoke for 30 to 40 minutes on two occasions or two days during a beach cleanup drive in Mumbai, in which Shraddha had participated. She was aloof and quiet and looked depressed. She did not mingle with the others and I walked up to her and asked her the reason. Initially she was not ready to open up, but I persisted and she said there were many problems in her life. Firstly, she wanted to get out of the relationship with Aftab, she told me. But she did not know how to do it. On the other hand, Aftab was not ready to get married and have a family and kids, which Shraddha desired,” Dhargalkar stated.

“He did not allow her to openly celebrate Hindu festivals. He would frown when she started talking about her family. There were many differences between the couple. They were from different religious and cultural backgrounds and upbringing. She may have sported a bob-cut hair and worn shorts and mini skirts, but she was brought up as a traditional Hindu, celebrating Hindu festivals and culture, which Aftab did not understand and subscribe to. Besides, he had a lot of girlfriends, which caused a lot of fights between them,” Shreha said.
