MUMBAI: Social and RTI activist and Samajwadi party Mahila Adhyaksh from Mira Road, while inspecting some complaints in the Malwani zone, has demanded the immediate demolition of illegal tenements and slums in the Malwani belt.

“Hundreds, if not thousands of illegal slums and tenements have sprung up in Malwani after the lock down. Some goondas are building illegal rooms and renting them out to others. This is a big racket going on in Malwani,” she told this reporter.

Nadkarni said she will be filing official complaints against the illegal structures in the area.

“There are several complaints from the people, due to over congestion. The construction work is sub-standard and structures are in danger of collapsing during the monsoon or during a storm. The land is encroached upon and electricity and water are stolen. No payments are made to the government or municipality,” Nadkarni told this reporter.
