Heat wave conditions in parts of Mumbai as max temp touches 39 degrees, hottest day of the year
MUMBAI: Heat wave-like conditions were witnessed in parts of Mumbai today, as the financial capital of the country recorded temperatures touching almost 39 degrees on Sunday.
The recorded temperature is around 5.5 to 6 degrees above normal, the Met said.
The maximum temperature in the city began shooting up from last week, with the suburban Santacruz Observatory recording a maximum temperature of 37.1 degrees on March 3.
On Sunday, the maximum temperature of 38.9 degrees was recorded at Santacruz, the highest daytime temperature for the year so far.
Residents complained about soaring temperatures in the city, venting their ire on social media. One Twitter user wrote, “I am in sahara desert” talking about the rise in temperature.
The maximum temperature for next the three days in Mumbai will hover around 37-38 degree Celsius, with a possibility of the mercury touching 39 degrees again, while Thane and interior parts could experience maximum temperatures of 40-43 degree Celsius.
The weatherman claimed the reason for the high temperatures was a delay in the sea breeze which blows into the city and suburbs and the beginning of the peak summer season.
