MUMBAI: When I spoke to Shraddha Walkar for a few minutes, based on her description and what she wanted from me, I figured out and told myself this person seems to be suffering from chronic depression, anxiety and a fear psychosis, explained Dr Pranav Kabra, the Mumbai-based doctor who was consulted by the victim in the Delhi murder case.

“While one cannot consider this as a professional diagnosis at the most it can only be considered as a “hunch” or “sixth sense” because the feeling was purely based on ‘doctor’s instinct’ and not based on any scientific or medical consultation and evaluation,” Dr Kabra said.

Shraddha Walkar had telephonically consulted a Mumbai-based physician and heart specialist Dr Pranav Kabra during the month of February 2021, regarding treatment for her live-in partner Aftab Amin Poonawalla.

Speaking to this reporter Dr Kabra said, “at that time, I told myself, this lady seems to be suffering from a fear psychosis. She was asking me to prescribe sedatives or drugs used to treat schizophrenia psychosis and paranoia, which cannot be given to anyone without proper consultation, diagnosis and evaluation and definitely not on phone.”

According to Dr Pranav Kabra fear psychosis or paranoia, is experienced with longstanding feelings and perceptions of being harassed, hunted or persecuted.

Paranoia is an extreme emotional state combined with cognitions and sometime delirium. This degree of fear is characterized by the transformation of an individual’s normal behavior into extreme or maladaptive ways due to extreme stress, depression and fear.

It has now come to light, that Dr Pranav Kabra’s hunch or ‘doctor’s instinct’ was correct, because Shraddha was locked up, harassed, beaten and abused by her live-in partner Aftab Amin Poonawalla.
