NEW DELHI: While Aftab Poonawala’s lawyer filed a bail application in the court, the court received an email from the jail where the accused is lodged saying that there was no communication between his lawyer and him and the bail application was erroneously filed.

However, the lawyer insisted that he had a signed vakalatnama on behalf of his client and was going as per that. The presiding judge had a word with Poonawalla who told the court that he had not consented to the bail application.

After the lawyer insisted, the Delhi court said it will hear Aaftab Ameen Poonawala’s bail plea case on December 22.

Aaftab, via video conferencing, asked the court to meet his lawyer. Aaftab’s bail application was filed by advocate Avinash. He is scheduled to meet his lawyer on Monday (December 19). Poonawala was presented before the court through video conferencing.

Poonawala, the main accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, moved Delhi’s Saket court on Friday, seeking bail. Poonawala was presented before the court through video conferencing for further remand.

The court on December 9 extended Poonawala’s judicial custody for 14 days. He is currently in judicial custody till December 23, and is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail.
