Heavy Rains Likely In Goa, Mumbai, Maha On 1st, 2nd Dec

MUMBAI: Heavy rains are expected in Mumbai and northern Maharashtra on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd December, the Met department has warned. Isolated moderate rain showers accompanied by lightning are likely in Konkan and Goa regions over the next two days.

The India Meteorological department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert in Mumbai between November 30-December 2, while parts of Thane and Palghar area are on a higher “Orange alert”. Palghar, Thane and Mumbai could be the worst hit, according to the forecast. A cyclonic storm may also hit Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts on Saturday morning.

Mumbai city and suburbs will witness thunderstorms along with lightning at isolated places between the next 24 to 48 hours, in some places the rains could be heavy resulting in water-logging.

Apart from Mumbai, alerts have been issued for Palghar, Thane, Pune, Raigad, Nashik, and other districts, as well as parts of Gujarat.

“A depression would result in heavy rainfall in Odisha & Andhra Pradesh from Nov 30 to Dec 2. A western disturbance might cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gujarat, Konkan, and Central Maharashtra from the night of December 1 to December 2”, RK Jenamani, IMD scientist said on Monday.
