Goa: Temp to rise by 2-3 deg, heatwave followed by light rains in the coming week
Panaji: The temperature in Goa is expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees in the coming week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a rainfall warning, but dry weather prevailed over Goa on Thursday. The IMD recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4C, over 1.1C above normal. It is expected to rise by 1-2 notches in the next few days.
The IMD has forecast light rain and thundershowers at isolated places over Goa till April 17. Haze is likely in the morning at isolated places on Friday. No large change in maximum temperature is expected for the next two days. However, a one- to two-degree rise is likely followed by a fall in temperature of one-to-two- degrees. There will be no large change thereafter and the same is expected to continue in the days to come, till the following week, the IMD forecast read. A private weather forecaster said the temperature could stay on the higher side for the next 10 days or so.
In addition to a slight rise in temperature, there is a high wave warning from the Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services for Goa. There is a possibility that the sea will be rough near the shore along the coast due to the effect of high tide period of 15-18-second swell waves, having 0.5-1m height. Swimmers are warned to be careful and not to venture deep into the water.
The IMD has also said there is a possibility of slight rain in the coming days in isolated parts of Goa. The IMD has also predicted a normal monsoon for Goa this year, but the arrival date or schedule is not yet confirmed.
