MUMBAI: Thirty-five-year-old regional film actor Shamita Shristi Sharma, who was rushed to a local Cardiac Care hospital in Mumbai after she fell unconscious, minutes after complaining of chest pain and dizziness, is fighting for her life after her health further deteriorated late on Sunday evening.

She is likely to be shifted to a bigger, cardiac specialty hospital on Sunday night, a family source said. She was initially taken to the nearest cardiac care clinic, which was less than 3 kms away from the location where she was shooting.

Shamita was shooting for an ad-film for a popular furniture brand on Saturday evening at a bungalow at Madh island near Malad West in suburban Mumbai when her health suddenly deteriorated. The shoot which started at noon went on till late night and took a heavy toll on the health of the actor

At around midnight on Saturday, as her shoot was about to pack up, Shamita complained of chest pain and dizziness and asked for water. She collapsed after a few minutes and was rushed to the nearest clinic at 12.10 am and immediately admitted in the cardiac unit, with a very weak and irregular pulse.

After the sudden deaths of Sidharth Shukla and Puneeth Rajkumar due to heart-related issues, Shamita’s family is extremely worried, because doctors who attended to her at the hospital said she had suffered a heart attack on the sets, which caused her to loose consciousness.

Fortunately, the heart attack was not a fatal one and as she was admitted to the cardiac ICU in less than 15 minutes, it saved her life. While her health coordinates improved on Sunday noon, they once again nosedived a few hours later on Sunday evening.

Presently as of Sunday late evening, her condition is extremely critical and she is on life-support systems including a heart bypass machine, fighting for her life.

Besides regional films in Marathi and Tamil, 35-year-old Shamita Shristi Sharma is into fashion-related events since the last few years, has done hundreds of print shoots and regional films in the last ten years. She currently lives in Mumbai.
