MUMBAI: A Bollywood model and actor Ishika Borah has filed an First Information Report (FIR) against an estate agent Manish Gupta at the Oshiwara police station.

While Borah has submitted the complaint weeks earlier, the Oshiwara police registered the FIR on 18th February u/s 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Borah’s complaint, due to the estate agent’s carelessness and irresponsibility, she suffered a huge loss, including irreparable damage to her laptop and other personal belongings and electronic gadgets when water from the upper floor seeped into her flat.

The estate agent had allegedly left the taps on/open in the flat above Borah’s flat causing water to fill up in the flat and seep into Borah’s flat below.

According to sources, the estate agents (who have duplicate keys) allegedly rent out empty/vacant flats for prostitution/flesh trade use in the old buildings in the Oshiwara/MAHADA societies.

These flats which are vacant (as most occupants shifted to their hometowns during the Covid pandemic), are given out to couples or others for parties, flesh trade, etc., for short duration of a few hours or for a few days, without the knowledge of the owners.

Sometimes the agents forget to switch off the lights/taps while showing the flats to prospective clients.

In one such case, the accused estate agent Manish Gupta failed to shut off the taps, resulting in flooding in the flat above the one occupied by Borah and due to leakage in the ceiling slab, flooded Borah’s flat as well.

After the incident, there were discussions between the flat owners, society and the estate agent, who in principle agreed to make good the loss suffered by Borah due to the water flooding.

However, Gupta failed to keep his word on making good the loss incurred by Borah and when she questioned him, he abused and threatened her, making personal vulgar comments.

Borah had approached the Oshiwara police station weeks earlier, but the complaint came to be registered only two days before.

The police have registered an FIR (CR No 0111/2022) against Gupta for molestation (Section 354) and giving threats (Section 506) of the Indian Penal Code and are on the look out for him.
