MUMBAI: In the Sadichha Sane murder case, lifeguard Mithu Singh who confessed to murdering the MBBS student and disposing her body about 200 meters into the Arabian Sea near Bandstand at Bandra in suburban Mumbai, had apparently tried to force the deceased to having sex with him.

“He first molested her and tried to rape her after taking her deep into the water, but she fought him off and tried to resist the rape attempt with all her might, following which he killed her,” sources claimed.

Based on his confession, the Indian Navy and local police launched a search operation in the sea near the Bandstand coastal area to locate the body of the MBBS student.

Sadichha Sane, a third-year MBBS student from the Grant Medical College in Mumbai disappeared from the Bandra Bandstand locality in November 2021. She had clicked some selfies with Singh, before she went missing.

The accused who was arrested by the cops, after more than a year, made a shocking disclosure to the police.

According to sources, he made sexual or intimate overtures to the deceased who flatly refused his offer, after which he killed her in a fit of anger. There is also a possibility of rape or molestation in this case, a source said.

The main accused Mithu Singh confessed his crime after sustained interrogation by the Mumbai Crime Branch. The accused, who worked as a lifeguard, said he killed Sadichha Sane and threw her body into the sea. While wearing a life jacket, he took the body away about 150 to 200 meters into the sea and disposed it.

The police conducted a search operation of the residence of the accused and recorded statements of the people in the neighbourhood and interrogated more than 100 people in this case.

Earlier the police had registered a case of kidnapping, but post the confession of the accused, the police added Section 302 of the IPC.

The student went missing from Bandra Bandstand on 30 November 2021.

According to the police, on November 29, 2021, Sadichha boarded a local train from Virar station at 9:58 am to take a prelims exam at JJ Hospital. The same day at 2 pm, she first reached Andheri and then came to Bandra by another local train. She took an auto to Bandstand.

The police have also arrested an associate of Singh, Abdul Jabbar Ansari who allegedly helped him in the murder.

Additional sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code were added against Singh and his associate, Jabbar Ansari. The duo was originally arrested on January 13 on charges of kidnapping.
