RIP Dr Joe: Prof Dr Joe D’ Souza – the scientist and environmentalist that Goa will miss

BY KENNETH SILVEIRA: Nobody helped him or used to see him or showed any concern for him while he was alive, suddenly everyone is kind of being there for him when he is no more.. what is the point now?

Should have seen him and been there for him while he was alive.. never late though.. as there are many more like him.

While he was alive, although he is not from my constituency, I use to see him, and get him his groceries and his needs free of cost. I used to buy whatever he needed whenever he messaged me if he needed anything as he was not keeping very well. He was suffering from high diabetes.

I have helped him with many of his problems too many a times with no expectations in return whatsoever.

Educated people like him always wanted me to contest the elections and be the voice of the common people for the betterment of us Goans. He had told me, that the most corrupt politicians and corrupt officials in the BJP Government will file bogus complaints and cases on me, will then misuse the police machinery and the judiciary to assassinate my character and harm me. Because as everybody knows, when one questions or criticizes the corrupt crooks in the interest or for the benefit of common people, the corrupt crooks in the Government can’t stand it and will try to bring you down.. But he told me to be strong. He knew I was strong.. and I am strong as always.

He was disappointed that I did not contest the elections this time… but then I had given way to the Congress and Capt Viriato by backing out last minute as I did not want the split of votes.

But, sadly our Goa has gone to the dogs..

RIP Prof Dr Joe my friend. You are in a better place. May your soul rest in peace.
