PANAJI: The Goa Progress Forum (GPF) has cautioned the Goa State Election Commission (SEC) and the Government of Goa that thousands of migrants from West Bengal, brought into Goa by a particular political party are trying to make fake Voter cards.

“We are hereby informing the SEC, the Goa government and the Goa Crime Branch through the media that fake voter cards are being made in Goa, since November, this year by the hundreds in an organized, criminal manner. Each fake card costs Rs 5000, but the migrants are funded by the political party sponsoring their stay here,’ said Shailendra Naik of the Goa Progress Forum.

The migrants are given a template or a tookit by their political masters on the format and formula for preparing fake voter cards. A similar toolkit was also used during the Bengal Assembly polls,” the GPF said.

“This is a huge scam and illegal activity going in. With votes getting split, given the fact that the number of political parties has increased in the State, an increase of 500 votes in favor of a particular candidate can make a huge difference. We appeal to the SEC to order an investigation into this matter,” Sheila Veigas of the Goa Progress Forum – Legal Cell stated.
