Goa, North-Konkan, Mumbai To Experience Scattered Rain, Thunderstorms and Lightning Till Dec 2
MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated to scattered rains with thunderstorms and lightning over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat from Tuesday, Nov. 30 till Thursday Dec. 2.
Accordingly, the national forecaster has kept all these regions under a ‘yellow watch’ for these three days. Gujarat is under an ‘orange alert’ for Wednesday, December 1.
Among major cities in the region, Mumbai is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with moderate rains, thunder and lightning throughout the week from Tuesday to Friday. Ahmedabad is also expected to see cloudy skies and light rain till December 2. Goa could experience scattered rain, thunderstorms and lightning on Tuesday and Wednesday, till Dec. 2.
The cyclonic circulation that drenched Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh last week continues to persist over the region. The system will continue to drench the southern peninsula with light to moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh till Monday or Tuesday.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the circulation will emerge in the Arabian Sea on Monday, Nov. 29 or Tuesday Nov. 30. Subsequently, the system could intensify into a low-pressure system near 15.5° N latitude of the Arabian Sea by Wednesday morning as per the TWC Met Team.
As a result, the northern part of the Konkan Coast will experience heavy rainfall on Wednesday due to the convergence of humid southeasterly winds brought by the low pressure. After that, the system will cross the Gulf of Khambhat by Thursday morning. However, no threat to gale winds is forecast due to the low as the strength remains low. (TWC)
