PANAJI: An aspiring actor and social worker Shamita Shristi-Sharma who has approached the Bombay High Court at Goa in the matter of the sex scandal concerning a State Cabinet Minister from the Mormugao constituency, told media persons today evening that the survivor has been threatened and forced to compromise with the Minister.

Speaking to this reporter, the social worker said that the victim was supposed to file an affidavit today, but chickened out at the last minute. “I believe the survivor has been kidnapped and kept in illegal confinement by the accused Minister,” she said. “We had prepared the affidavit and everything was ready. The victim was supposed to come to the Registrar’s office at the High Court at Goa and we were waiting for her. We even offered to send a car to pick her up. When I spoke to the victim on Tuesday, she said she would be definitely coming, but today since morning her phone is switched off. I later got a message from a person close to the victim woman that she was threatened with death and told not to go to police or court. She was offered a huge sum of money by the Minister who is forcing her to compromise. The woman wants to file a complaint, but she is being forcibly restrained and illegally detained by the Minister and his goons.” READ HERE: Minister’s thugs didn’t allow victim to enter police station to file complaint, showed her into a vehicle and brought her to accused for settlement

Shamita Shristi-Sharma who is part of the NGO Stree Adhikar said she was shocked that women in Goa are not coming out in support of the survivor. There are so many women active in Goa in politics and social work, but none of them have said a word in support of the victim.

“I want to ask Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and the Aam Aadmi Party’s Cecille Rodrigues as to why they are silent on this matter. A woman has been sexually exploited and threatened. The sexual relationship between the Minister and the victim was never consensual.  There was an element of inducement and threat from day one. The woman was in a forced relationship with the MLA, only because of fear of bodily harm and financial inducement. There was no consent in this case. It is surprising why women in Goa are not coming forward to take up this matter,” Shristi-Sharma said. (Read full story here)
