Don Bosco College of Engineering at Fatorda, Goa completes 10 eventful years
MARGAO: The Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), Fatorda, South Goa, managed by the Fatorda Salesian Society and established in the year 2011, today achieved the milestone of completing a decade of providing quality technical education to the youth of Goa in realization of the vision of its patron Don Bosco.
Surrounded by a lush green campus, it is situated in heart of Margao city. DBCE has emerged as one of the most sought-after technical institutes in Goa, among aspiring engineers in the state and received wide spread acclaim from stakeholders and the public at large.
In the last 10 years, the college has scaled great heights by forging partnerships with reputed institutions nationally and internationally and has established a strong industry connect.
It focuses on value based education, training & career development channeling the innovative and entrepreneurial skills of the youth. The college has advanced laboratories for training on cutting edge technologies, state of the art seminar halls, modern facilities for online teaching/learning, central computing & prototyping facilities, Incubation center and a modern sports complex.
DBCE has signed MOUs with IIT Goa, FICCI, GTA, PWD, Xavier Institute of Engineering, Mumbai and reputed industries like Persistent, Sanofi, Turbocam, Godrej, Ultratech Cement, Alcon etc.
It is in the process of signing MOU with Binghamton University, USA and has associated with International Association for Cryptologic Research, ACM Singapore Chapter, Cybersecurity & Tech. Consultancy, UK, Royal University of Bhutan, NITK Suratkal, BARC and engineering colleges across India.
Having organized two international conferences and various short term training programs/FDPs DBCE is counted among the best.
Industry supported labs have been established by Turbocam, Putzmeister, BMW, Eduvance and e- Yantra. FiiRE, the Technology Business Incubator of the college established by the support of DST, Government of India with the aim of supporting innovators by helping build prototypes, connect to strategic mentors and investors is selected to seed fund startups under the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme.
DST-NIDHI’s PRAYAS scheme is also implemented through FiiRE by setting up typical Fab lab to facilitate mechanical and digital fabrication. DBCE is a nodal remote centre of IIT, Bombay, virtual labs and has local chapters of NPTEL & ISTE.
The college boasts of a well-qualified and academically robust workforce with 11 doctorates and many of them pursuing the PhD program.
Faculty members have received various awards at national & international level. DBCE has achieved 5 gold medals at Goa University. Institution Innovation Council (IIC) established as per the norms of MHRD’s Innovation Cell has been consistently securing high ranking over the years.
ISTE Best Faculty Innovation Award, GTA award, CII Silver ranking are other notable accolades attributed to DBCE.
The college is privileged to have received research grants of around 1.2 Crores from DRDO, ISRO, DST and other organizations for R&D activities.
Audit courses on industry relevant topics like Maintenance, Automation, Robotics, Entrepreneurship etc. are some of the several initiatives taken to bridge the industry institute gap.
DBCE has accomplished a rare feat of organizing more than 500 technical events which includes workshops, expert talks, webinars etc. and around 250 field visits to industries, construction sites, research organizations etc.
Professional Chapters of IEI, ISHRAE, FSAI, ICI, IETE, IEEE, GAUG, SCRS, IWWA and student clubs like Satellite Club-Parikrama, Antenna Research group are intended to inculcate the requisite skills and imbibe managerial qualities among students.
National and state level events like SANKRITI, INSPIRUS, TECHNOVA and IGNITRON are organized annually by student associations.
Value education is integral part of the learning culture of the institute. Mandatory Internship Training, Mentoring & Counselling, Industrial safety training, Aptitude / GATE coaching, E Cell are other prominent initiatives which prepare the student to step in to the corporate world.
DBCE students have excelled in various competitions like Smart India Hackathon, GCCI & GSInC Competitions etc., and numerous projects have received widespread acclaim from media and the society at large.
Reputed companies across India have recruited students of DBCE over the years.
With time, the college has established itself as a hub for corporate training, supporting the industry and start up eco system in Goa having trained more than 1000 professionals.
Around 20 short term training programs approved by ISTE have been conducted for the benefit of faculty from across India. With modern and well calibrated testing facilities, civil consultancy works worth Rs.35 Lakhs have been executed.
Manufacturing, 3 D printing, Computer Aided Design & Analysis, Online recruitment tests & competitive/entrance exams are some of the other notable services provided.
As part of social responsibility, the institute has undertaken various social initiatives under the banner of Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, NSS cell and has been recognized as a Skill Development Center under PMKVY. Student clubs like MecHeads, Robocom Robotics are empowered for community development initiatives.
Kshitij–project exhibition which showcases innovative talents and career in engineering seminars are flagship events of the college which attract large participation.
The college has envisaged an ambitious plan for the future with CNC centre, NBA accreditation, PG/Phd centre, state-of-the-art green library, partnerships with foreign Universities, etc. being in the pipeline.
