Anjuna Parking Attendant Murder: Tourists Wanted To Withdraw Cash From ATM, Stopped Car For 5 Minutes
ANJUNA, GOA: Interrogation of the five accused persons arrested (for the murder of a 45-year-old pay parking agent) by the Anjuna police in North Goa, has revealed that the accused merely wanted to access an ATM nearby to withdraw cash as they had run out of money. They initially requested the parking attendant to allow them to park the car for few minutes, as they wanted to go to the ATM, but he refused and demanded the parking fee.
The parking attendant insisted and demanded that the tourists pay the parking fee of Rs 20, which they refused as they claimed they merely wanted to go to the ATM nearby and would be back within a few minutes. This lead to a verbal exchange between the tourists and the parking attendant.
The arrested tourists told the police that when they refused to pay, the deceased parking attendant used rude, abusive and filthy language, addressing the tourists with racially-colored casteist slurs including using the word “ghanti” and other similar abusive language. This infuriated the tourists who in a sudden, violent fit of anger punched the deceased. The attendant fell down and hit or cut his head on a hard surface, causing head injuries leading to heavy bleeding. The tourists claimed the attendant had tried to get hold of a stick to attack them, but lost his balance and fell hitting his head on some hard surface, resulting in fatal injuries.
Those present at the spot shifted the bleeding attendant Sagar Shripad Naik to a nearby private hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him “brought dead on arrival”. The delay of about 25 to 30 minutes, including the fact that the locals could not stop the bleeding by providing immediate First Aid, led to the unfortunate death of the 45-year-old.
After the attendant fell down and started bleeding, the accused fled from the spot towards Karnataka, in their vehicle and tried to cross the Goa border. However, the police had already issued an alert message to the border posts and the accused were detained at the Polem check post with the help of Canacona Police in South Goa.
The accused were tracked based on the vehicle registration number recorded in CCTV footage. The Anjuna police which acted swiftly as the locals began protesting, informed all the police stations and the border checkposts.
While the accused were trying to cross the border, the Canacona police detained them based on the vehicle registration number and the accused were brought to Anjuna. Five persons have been arrested and two more are being questioned by the police.
