Thunderstorms, rain to continue in Goa over the weekend, mostly till mid next week

PANAJI: Widespread rains and thunderstorm activity is likely to continue across Goa during the weekend till about mid next week, the weatherman has said.

According to the weather forecast for the next 3 to 5 days, widespread rain with thunderstorms are very likely over Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. Heavy rain is predicted at isolated places in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka over the weekend.

The depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the north Tamil Nadu coast moved west-northwestwards and crossed north Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Chennai between 3-4 am on Friday.

As of 5:30 am Friday, the depression was centred over coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood, approximately 60 km south-southwest of Chennai and 60 km north-northeast of Puducherry.

It is very likely to continue moving west-northwestwards and weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 12 to 16 hours.

Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places, with heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places across south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka on Friday.

Isolated heavy showers are also likely over north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Telangana, Coastal and North interior Karnataka and parts of Goa for the next 24 hours.
