Titos’ Ricardo D’souza to contest Goa Polls as an independent from Calangute
CALANGUTE, GOA: The co-owner of Titos – a popular hot spot in North Goa, Ricardo D’souza is all set to contest as an independent candidate from the tourist belt of the Calangute constituency in the upcoming Goa Assembly polls.
Months earlier, D’souza has said he visited the BJP headquarters in Delhi and met “most of the top leaders” of the party. He said he got a “lot of signals” from the party and was expecting a BJP ticket.
He had expressed his desire to contest the upcoming legislative Assembly elections from the Calangute constituency in North Goa, currently held by Goa ports minister Micheal Lobo, as a BJP candidate.
However, the latest update is that D’souza may be contesting as an independent, as the BJP is reluctant to deny Lobo the Calangute seat, unless of course, Lobo gives it up on his own.
D’souza had publicly stated that he desired a BJP ticket, but if denied a BJP ticket he would contest as an independent.
He also made it clear that if he won the elections as an independent, he would support the BJP. He had supported the BJP at the same time, criticised certain undesirable elements who were fostering corruption in the state. His rationale was that every party has such elements who bring a bad name to the party.
