Goa Polls: Chidambaram Should Stop Nodding His Head And Start Cracking The Whip
PONDA: Speaking to media persons in Ponda today, the Goa Citizens Civic Forum (GCCF) said that senior Election Observer of the Congress, P Chidambaram should ‘stop nodding his head and start cracking the whip’.
The GCCF said Chidambaram should not get carried away by the very rosy picture painted by certain senior Goa Congress leaders.
“The ground reality is very much different. The Block Presidents, aspiring candidates and projected leaders have little or no connect with the people even in their respective constituencies, simply because they are never there for the people. They are social media social activists and social workers, only seen in photographs on well-designed posters and social media posts, but never actually seen doing real work in their constituencies. among the poor and underprivileged residents of their constituencies,” the GCCF said in a press note.
“There are a few senior leaders in the Goa unit of the Congress who will say one thing and do just the opposite. Last time during the by-polls of 2019, the Congress could have won 3 out of the 4 seats. But they failed. They chose imported leaders who had no connect with the party and had only joined the party for a ticket. They will paint a very rosy picture of the party for the forthcoming elections, knowing very well that no work has been actually done on the ground. Merely holding meetings and addressing press conferences will not translate into votes. Why will the electorate vote for a particularly leader in a constituency who only appears 3 to 4 months before the elections and makes promises which are mere utterances. Unless the candidate is with the people, helping them in their time of need, unless the candidate is accessible to the people around the year, during natural calamities and otherwise, they will not vote for him/her. The Goa unit of the Congress will select candidates who make an appearance 2-3 months prior to elections and are not seen around in the constituency all the year round. The candidate must have a strong connect and inter-personal relations with the people of the constituency. Only then will he get votes,” GCCF spokesperson Norma Braganza said.
