Very Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms In Goa Today: IMD Issues Red Alert
PANAJI: According to a UNI report, during the next 24 to 48 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Goa, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha, the IMD predicted on Monday.
Hence, squally weather is very likely along and off the south Maharashtra-Goa coast, it added. The IMD further said that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are very likely at isolated places over the Vidarbha region in the same period.
The monsoon trough runs over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, interior Maharashtra, south Chhattisgarh, south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh and west-central Bay of Bengal on Tuesday morning.
According to Weather.com, a well-marked low-pressure area (LPA) and related cyclonic circulation are around south Chhattisgarh, south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and west interior Maharashtra on Tuesday.
The system is likely to move west-northwestward during the next few days. It is expected to be centered around Gujarat and west Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday morning and around Gujarat, west Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Pakistan by Thursday.
The offshore trough is likely to persist off the Maharashtra coast towards Kerala coast during this period.
The westerly winds from the Arabian Sea are expected to bring humidity to the well-marked low-pressure area over West, South and Central India in this period.
Under the influence of the above meteorological conditions, fairly widespread to widespread rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms have been forecast over West, west coastal South India and North India in this period.
Moreover, heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely over isolated places of Maharashtra, Goa and Telangana on Tuesday. Accordingly, IMD has issued a red warning or Red Alert over Telangana, Konkan and Goa for Tuesday.
