Thunderstorm, rains to continue in Goa for another week
PANAJI: The weatherman has predicted more wet weather for Goa in the coming week, saying that isolated rainfall could occur at some places across Goa throughout the week, continuing into the first half of next week.
Thunderstorms, lightning and rain is predicted for Goa and neighbouring areas, including parts of Maharashtra for the next ten days, till next Wednesday. Goans are expected to stay indoors and avoid standing under trees or in open areas during lightning activity to avoid burns or injury.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that rainfall activity is likely to increase in the week and could even result in heavy rainfall of 6.4cm of rain in 24 hours, in certain areas of Goa.
In addition to this, a new low pressure area is likely to form by November 17 creating a new weather system. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the Goa-Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts.
The weather department said the rains in Goa were due to two weather circulations, bringing a moisture incursion to the Goa coast.
“The reason for the mid-November rainfall was a circulation near south interior Karnataka and north Tamil Nadu which is a remnant of the earlier depression that crossed over to the Tamil Nadu coast on November 11.
Further, a circulation over the south east Arabian Sea is also bringing easterly winds over Goa resulting in rainfall.
According to a private forecaster, activity is expected from November 15 to November 19 in Konkan, Goa, Madhya (central) Maharashtra, Marathwada region and farther, up to South Gujarat.
Meanwhile, Mumbai is likely to receive rainfall between November 16 and November 19. This will be under the influence of the likely formation of a new low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal and its west-northwestward movement into mainland India.
