PERNEM: The Pernem police in North Goa today arrested two migrant workers – one from Assam and another a Jharkhand native for allegedly assaulting and molesting a Russian lady tourist.

Sources said their intention was to rob and possibly also rape the woman.

The migrant duo work at a hotel in Morjim, a popular beach-side locale also known as mini Russia as it is very popular with Russian tourists.

The accused have been identified as Abinash Goria of Assam and Mohammad Faizal Khan of Jharkhand.

The police said they allegedly entered the hotel room through a slanting or sloping window while the woman guest was asleep. While they were rummaging through her things, the complainant woke up and they caught hold of her hands and tried to stop her from screaming.

In doing so, they pressed her mouth with immense force, due to which the victim sustained injuries to her lips.

“One tooth got uprooted during the fight,” sources said, adding that the victim was provided medical treatment.

The Pernem police said further investigation is on and the police are trying to ascertain if the duo have committed any similar break-ins or thefts recently. The arrested youth with their faces covered were paraded before local reporters for a photo-op by the Pernem officials.

This is a developing story and more details are awaited. We will update this story as more information comes in.
