Goan lawyer Aires Rodrigues who took on Union Minister Smriti Irani, gets invited for daughter’s wedding, congratulates latter on the occasion

PANAJI: Goan lawyer and social activist Aires Rodrigues who took on Union Minister Smriti Irani in the Silly Souls restaurant matter, received an invitation for the marriage of Irani’s step-daughter Shanelle Irani, to be held in Rajasthan.

Shanelle is the daughter of Irani’s businessman husband, Zubin Irani from his first marriage to model co-ordinator Mona Irani.

Irani’s husband has business interests in the retail and packaged foods and water business and is involved in the hospitality and FMCG distribution biz in the coastal state.

Mona Irani and Smriti Irani remain friends to this day.

In a widely circulated WhatsApp message that was published in hundreds of WhatsApp groups, Rodrigues wrote as follows:

Have known Smriti and her hubby Zubin Irani over two decades ago, while addressing BJP meetings in Goa when the BJP was spreading its tentacles in our State.

We have however crossed swords last year over that stormy infamous Silly Souls Café & Bar at Assagao which was being run by the Irani household and is now closed. Nostalgic memories still linger of our interactions in Goa during those years.

I was delighted to receive an invitation for their daughter’s wedding scheduled in Rajasthan tomorrow. But as the Silly Souls matter is currently sub judice before the Goa Chief Secretary, it would be very inappropriate for me to attend as much as I would have liked to.

Dear Smriti and Zubin, thanks for having remembered and inviting this small little Soul to share this happy occasion. Prayers and choicest blessings to the bridal couple Shanelle & Arjun and their families. Wishing them all the very best and good wishes on this momentous occasion.
