Goa rain update: Heavy rains in Goa only after 9 June, pre-monsoon showers from June 7
PANAJI: The advent of the monsoon in Goa seems to be delayed by at least 4-5 days according to prevailing weather conditions. Most parts of the state experienced extremely hot weather conditions on Monday and the same is likely to continue for at least two days more.
However, by next week around the 10th of June, regular rains are expected in the coastal state, even resulting in flooding in some areas.
According to an India Met Department spokesperson the heat could get worse because the arrival of the monsoon has been delayed as it is yet to make its onset over Kerala and other parts of South India.
It was predicted that the monsoon season will start in Kerala on June 4 – plus or minus four days- so one has to wait and watch till June 8, the spokesperson said, adding that weather conditions could change within the next two days.
However, despite the forecast of a delay in the monsoons, Goans should not worry as pre-monsoon showers have been predicted from June 5 to 7 and it has been drizzling since the last two days in some places, the IMD stated.
“A yellow alert has been issued and with it, the chances of pre-monsoon showers are high in most parts of Goa,” the IMD said.
According to the weatherman, the rains that lashed South Goa were not pre-monsoon showers and these were due to a cyclonic disturbance in the Arabian sea.
