Goa: Pernem thug Swapnil Parab involved in more than 20 cases of extortion, theft, robbery, assault, sextortion and blackmail

PANAJI: While the Pernem Police in North Goa recently arrested history sheeter and chronic criminal Swapnil Parab for his involvement in assaulting and snatching a silver chain of a Traffic Marshall in November 2020, Pernem locals alleged that Parab is a goonda who is involved in several cases of theft, robbery, extortion, sexual blackmail, etc. and has cases registered against him not only at Pernem, but at Ponda, Canacona and Sanguem and other police stations in Goa.

A social activist from North Goa has alleged that Parab is involved in more than 20 cases of extortion, theft, robbery, assault, sextortion and blackmail and has blackmailed several women by getting sexually involved with them and later threatening to expose them.

He was involved with some local politicians in the past and boasted of his contacts with photographs clicked with politcians, which he strutted on his WhatsApp DP (display photo) and other social media accounts.

According to a media report, Parab has 9 cases filed against him, but police sources claim the number could be over 20. He was also involved in a case regarding an assault on a police official in 2018.

The Pernem PS had registered CR No. 185/20 U/s 504, 356, 379, 506 (ii) IPC on the the complaint of one Keshav Narayan Shetye in the year 2020.

According to the FIR, the accused Swapnil Parab R/o Varkhand Pernem Goa abused the complainant with filthy words, snatched his silver chain valued at about Rs. 12,000/- which he had worn around his neck and further threatened him with dire consequences to kill if he reported the matter. This incident happened near the Government Primary school, Nagzar Pernem Goa,

“After hectic efforts to track the accused, credible information was obtained that the accused was traced at Dadchiwadi Dhargal Pernem and arrested on 19.02.2023 at 13.35 hrs,” the Goa police said in a media statement.

According to police sources, Swapnil Sakaram Parab who is a resident of H.No. 41 Deulwada Warkhand Pernem Goa, had threatened to kill a builder from Panjim and demanded Rs 2 crore from him, but panicked and went underground after the cops started tracking him.

In another case, a woman from South Goa had accused Parab of sexually blackmailing her during the lockdown by getting into a relationship and later on threatening to expose her photographs in the public domain.

The victim alleged that Parab did not tell her he was married and got into a sexual relationship on the pretext of helping her. He clandestinely clicked photos in compromising positions and later on used them to blackmail the victim.
