Goa: CM, BJP Govt faked and fudged data, manipulated reports and figures on Covid vaccination claims, alleges Kamat

MARGAO: Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and former CM of Goa, Digambar Kamat on Saturday said Goa CM Pramod Sawant and the BJP government in Goa has faked and fudged data and manipulated reports and figures on Covid vaccination claims in the coastal state.

According to an ANI report, Kamat slammed the BJP-led Goa government and said its claim of 100 per cent Covid vaccination was another addition to its pack of lies.

“There are hundreds of people living in the State who have not even got the first dose of the Covid vaccine. They are trying to get an appointment, but are unable to do so,” Kamat said.

Alleging that the BJP government tried to mislead and misguide the people with false claims of its achievements, the former CM and senior Congress leader said, “The recent claim by the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant of 100% Covid vaccination to the eligible population is one more lie added to the government’s pack of lies over the last two years.”

According to the ANI report, while questioning the allegedly false announcements made by CM Pramod Sawant, Kamat said the BJP government made a “business from sickness” of Goans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I urge Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to verify facts and figures before making any tall claims. I want to remind the Union Health Minister as well as the Chief Minister that the over-excitement of the BJP Government to declare Goa as a Green Zone had resulted in Covid havoc in Goa. The government needs to be sensitive and responsible and not make sensational announcements that could put the lives of thousands of Goans in danger,” said Kamat.

He said the state government was lying that no deaths took place due to a lack of oxygen for COVID patients.

“There were reports and frantic calls and messages every day for several days during the second wave in May, from relatives of patients at GMC who died due to lack of oxygen. We have all seen the videos of patients’ relatives begging for oxygen cylinders or oxygen supply which was interrupted at the govt hospital during the night time, due to the incompetence and failure of the government,” Kamat said.

“The insensitive BJP Government first falsely declared Goa as Open Defecation (ODF) Free when the government is still ordering new mobile toilets and people are still going out in the open fields in many parts of the State,” claimed the former CM.

Then the government falsely announced that every household in Goa is connected with tapped water. There are several areas in Goa where tap water is not available for weeks on end. The taps are there, but there is no water and they are dry for nearly two months during summer, he said.

Unfortunately, even during this festival period, people in the PWD minister’s constituency are dependent on tankers and well or river water, claimed the leader of the opposition.

He said the time has come to put to rest the ‘Jumlaas‘ of the BJP in Goa.

He appealed to Goans to question the BJP Government on their falsehood and lies, without fear.

The government is suppressing the voice of Goans by arresting those who ask questions, Kamat said, referring to a recent incident where several youth were arrested for asking questions and creating a ruckus at a meeting in Shiroda, where the Goa CM was present.

“The time has come to put an end to their fake propaganda,” he added.
