PANAJI: Former Goa CM and ex-Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Luizinho Faleiro’s dreams of a new innings in Goan politics by returning to the Congress fold may have just been slashed, as IndyaTv has just learnt that the Gandhi family has completely distanced themselves from the controversial Goan politician.

Sources had earlier told this website that Faleiro – after his breakup with the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC was apparently trying to seek an appointment with Sonia Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders in New Delhi, including Rahul Gandhi. Now, according to the latest political gossip in the Congress camp, it seems that neither Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi are keen on meeting Faleiro or for that matter even taking his calls.

As far as the Gandhis’ are concerned, their doors seemed to be forever closed to the Navelim, South Goa strongman – at least for now. While there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics, for now Luizinho may have to wait and pray for a miracle if he intends to join back into the Congress, forget about getting an important post in the Goa Congress unit.

Faleiro has made it clear that he would like to contest the Lok Sabha polls next year and insiders say he was hopeful of a Congress ticket from South Goa. At least for now that option seems to be shut off with the entire Gandhi family refusing to even talk to him.

Luizinho Faleiro was not available for comment. He had said earlier that he was not sure about wanting to go back to the Congress, but he also said he had not yet quit politics or hung up his boots. Only time will tell, where fate takes Faleiro in the future or will he fade into oblivion before 2024.
