PANAJI: Maharashtra Gomantakwadi Party’s (MGP) supremo Ramakrishna “Sudin” Dhavalikar is likely to meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for a “secret” meeting to finalize his party’s alliance with the BJP for the forthcoming polls in Goa, which are less than 4 months away.

Dhavalikar met BJP Goa election in-charge and former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis recently in Mumbai.

Though both parties denied any deal was struck, sources say the two parties who are considered natural allies, are likely to announce an alliance after Diwali.

Poll analysts claim that both parties have decided on an alliance and only a few details have to be worked out.

Dhavalikar, Goa CM Pramod Sawant and Devendra Fadnavis are making conflicting statements to mislead the other parties, particularly the Goa Forward Party and the Congress and keep the electorate guessing.

As if on cue, a day before Gadkari’s visit to the coastal state, Dhavalikar said his party was open for an alliance with BJP, provided they agree to join hands for 12 seats or constituencies where the MGP is currently canvassing and has zeroed in on aspiring candidates for the polls.

Last week Dhavalikar said he was not open to an alliance with the BJP as the party had “cheated” him twice. He even compared an alliance with the BJP akin to committing suicide.

Suddenly, Dhavalikar seems to have changed his mind about “committing suicide” and agreed for an alliance with the BJP. Sources said Dhavalikars close association with Gadkari may be a reason for the same.
