Firebrand Mahua Moitra to lead TMC’s Goa foray for Elections 2022
KOLKATA: The All India Trinamool Congress party (AITC) has appointed Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra as the party’s state in-charge of Goa with immediate effect. She will take charge from Sunday.
Moitra’s appointment will bring new life to the fledgling TMC setup in Goa and her spirit and enthusiasm, not to forget her “calling a spade a spade” attitude is expected to invigorate the newly joined members, who were feeling a bit lost in the last few days.
As reported earlier, two MLAs are likely to join the party in the coming days.
A notification appointing Moitra was issued by TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday and published on their official social media handles on Saturday evening.
As per the notification, the decision to appoint Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra as the party’s Goa in-charge was approved by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier in the day the party announced the name of former Goa CM Luizinho Faleiro, who recently joined the TMC, as its Rajya Sabha candidate.
Reacting to the development, Moitra wrote on Twitter, “Looking forward to doing my very best. Thank you for the opportunity.”
Moitra has a tough job cut out. The party’s Goa unit is top heavy, with most leaders spending all their time giving bytes to local YouTube channels.
It needs to start a massive statewide membership drive. Leaders should lie low for a couple of weeks, shun the media rhetoric and rope in thousands of genuine workers across the state, set up Blocks or Mandals in each constituency and also set up verticals for youth, minority, women, etc. And most importantly it needs to keep in mind, there are 50 days left for the Code of Conduct to come into force in Goa.
Time is something that Moitra really doesn’t have in Goa!
