BREAKING: Former Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado to join TMC on Monday, BJP’s Avertano Furtado will switch to Congress in a few days
PANAJI: Former Panjim Mayor and Congress loyalist Surendra Furtado is likely to join the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) along with former Goa CM and Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro on Monday.
News of Faleiro joining the TMC has been doing the rounds for the last few days and we were the first to report it. Faleiro has called a press conference at the Marriott Hotel in North Goa, to make an “important announcement” on Monday at 4.30 pm.
It is said that Faleiro will announce his resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party (and as an MLA) tomorrow along with several other Congress leaders, including forner Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes, Surendra Furtado and several other Congress leaders.
Meanwhile BJP leader and former Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado will be joining the Congress either on Monday or within the next few days.
Avertano Furtado confirmed to this reporter that he is joining the Goa Pradesh Congress, either on Monday or in a few days, but Surendra Furtado was not available for comment, in spite of our efforts to contact him. We will update this story as and when he responds.
Surendra Furtado’s son Vladimir Furtado has denied reports that his father could or would be joining the TMC. “We are still with the Congress,” he said. He however added a rider, stating that it is not possible to speak about the future. Similarly, a source close to Agnelo Fernandes stated that he was not joining any other party and was very much with the Congress.
