MEERUT: The two bike-borne thieves who were arrested on Sunday after prompt action by the police – after they tried to snatch the earrings of an 80-year-old woman, had similarly robbed several other elderly women of their jewellery in the area.

The duo were adept at chain snatching and had stolen at least a dozen gold chains over the last six months, in a similar modus operandi like they used on Sunday. Unfortunately for them, their luck ran out when a brave girl Riya who was accompanying her grandmother, caught hold of the bike and tried to stop them. They were caught on CCTV surveillance cameras and the Meerut police launched a hunt to track them down. The duo were nabbed within six hours, even as they tried to escape and got shot in the leg.

The cops are looking into their past criminal history and other cases linked to them are likely to get exposed.
