Young adults have major issues with anger management, hypertension leading to increased cases of domestic violence, finds Vasai hospital survey
PALGHAR, VASAI: According to the results of several tests conducted on hundreds of random youth in Vasai city by a special team of the St Mary Advance Care Hospital (SMACH), young adults between 25 to 35 years of age have major issues with anger management, aggrivated by hypertension and chronic depression, not to forget stress due to financial issues, loans and outstanding payments or EMIs.
The situation is prevalent both among males and females in the age group, leading to cases of domestic violence – most of it unreported, among young married couples in city the survey noted.
While a majority of these cases of violent behaviour and domestic aggression against family members or spouses is unreported – as the cases are sorted out within the family – there is an underlying medical and psychological emergency, which needs to be tackled, opines Dr Pranav Kabra (MD) who heads the special team of the St Mary Advance Care Hospital (SMACH) located at Hathi Mohalla at Parnaka in Vasai city.
In another related finding, nearly 15 percent of youth below the age of 25 are diabetic and nearly another 20 percent are pre-diabetic.
This means that in the next 10 years or so, a minimum of 30 to 35 percent of middle-aged persons in the city will be suffering from diabetes, opines Dr Pranav Kabra, who states that hypertension and diabetes are related.
The private hospital at Parnaka in Vasai city conducted tests for aggression, diabetes, hypertension and depression among more than 800 youth and after analysing and data mining the results, found that about 25-30 percent of the youth tested were either already diabetic or were pre-diabetic or suffering from either depression or hypertension.
Dr Pranav Kabra along with his team at the St Mary Advance Care Hospital in Vasai West who conducted the tests and the survey, said most of the youth who showed signs of diabetes were in the age group of 22 to 26 years and there were an almost equal number of males and females in the random test group across Vasai city. The individuals tested were from Tam Talao, Papdy, Holi, Giriz, Manickpur and other localities of Vasai.
Chronic depression and hypertension – leading to aggressive behaviour in many youth due to long hours at work, travelling on congested roads, pollution, lack of sleep, warm weather and several other factors are primarily responsible for the increase in domestic violence – between family members in the locality, the survey noted.
